HP Compaq Business Desktop PC - Identifying Unknown Devices Using msinfo32 ISSUE: Identifying Unknown Devices using msinfo32
SOLUTION: 1. Run msinfo32 (in the Start Menu | Run box) 2. Under the Components branch look for Problem Devices. 3. With the "Problem Devices" highlighted click on the File Menu and select to Export as text file. 4. Open the text file and copy/paste the contents of the problem devices here (email) or attach the txt file and email it. 5. Do not export the whole contents of the msinfo32 report, just the one for the problem devices. 6. With the PCI\VEN numbers we might be able to identify the devices.
Now that we have the PCI\VEN_ number we can search online databases example http://www.pcidatabase.com/ for the vendor and device. The first step is to identify the vendor id or vendor number.
Example PCI\VEN_10DE &DEV_03F0 &SUBSYS_2A58103C&REV_A2\3&2411E6FE&0&28
Vendor: NVIDIA Device ID: 0x03F0 Chip Number: MCP61 Chip Description: High Definition Audio
Or
PCI Device PCI\VEN_8086 &DEV_293E &SUBSYS_281E103C&REV_02\3&B1BFB68&0&D8 Vendor: Intel Corporation Device ID: 0x293E Chip Number: 486486 Chip Description: Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio |
